Brioni was founded in 1945 by master tailor Nazareno Fonticoli and salesman Gaetano Savini. It was named after a holiday island on the Adriatic coast. Brioni has a factory in Abruzzo, where tailors trained in the company's own workshop make handmade jackets, suits, overcoats, ties, trousers and other garments. Each finished suit is the result of at least 18 hours of work. The business is characterized by specialization: there are dedicated workers for cutting the fabric, attaching buttons, sewing buttonholes, and so on.
The company also owns a separate shirt factory and a leather workshop. There are over 900 tailors, and a quarter of all production consists of made-to-measure suits. In Europe, Brioni's ready-to-wear suits retail for some 3,500 euros at the cheapest. The factory's tailors also travel around Europe to measure customers in specialty stores that sell Brioni.
Today, Brioni is one of the world's most famous makers of tailored ready-to-wear. Brioni started with suits and other clothes aimed for a formal lifestyle, but over the decades leisurely demand has expanded, and the supply has followed. Brioni in the 21st century offers everything from accessories to lingerie and from suits to leather jackets — without forgetting its roots in Rome. In terms of quality, B. is always a sure choice.
